TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

Parameter Specification
Wavelength 1064 nm
Range (Ranging) ≥ 5,000 m
Range (Designation) ≥ 3.5 km
Weight ≤ 420 g
Dimensions 95 mm × 97 mm × 48 mm

Control Functions

  • Supports laser ranging with real-time reporting of measured distance values.
  • Equipped with reverse polarity protection and over-voltage protection circuits.
  • Performs laser designation at a built-in frequency of 20 Hz.
  • Supports externally synchronized laser firing (external sync mode) via an external trigger signal, allowing precise encoding (specific characteristics TBD).
  • Capable of reporting real-time operating temperature to the host system for monitoring and analysis (reserved function; communication protocol TBD).
  • Power-on and startup self-test functionality.
  • Overtemperature warning function:When the internal temperature exceeds safe operating limits and laser emission must be stopped, the device sends an overtemperature warning to the host system and automatically enters a protection mode to ensure laser safety (reserved function; protocol TBD; temperature read from pump module).
  • Laser emission pulse count reporting.
  • Energy adjustment interface (reserved):A software interface is reserved to allow fine-tuning of laser energy (standalone capability). When energy output decreases, it can be recalibrated via software to maintain ≥ 45 mJ.
  • During ranging and laser designation operations, feedback data include pulse count identifiers.
  • Self-test and fault code output:
    a) Power-on self-testincludes:
    RS-422 serial communication status;
    High-temperature warning;
    b) Startup and periodic self-test include:
    RS-422 serial communication status;
    High-temperature warning;
    Laser emission/no-emission status.

Note: Because the rangefinder/designator can only detect charging/discharging and laser emission faults during laser firing, the power-on self-test does not require these checks. Startup and periodic self-tests will report results from the last emission or ranging operation.

Product Description

LDR40K3 40 mJ 1064 nm Laser Rangefinder and Target Designator for Vehicle Turrets

The LDR40K3 is a 40 mJ 1064 nm solid-state laser rangefinder and target designator optimized for integration on vehicle turrets, naval EO/IR stations and compact sensor pods. It measures distance to the target and provides coded laser illumination for precision-guided systems, bringing long-range engagement and high pointing stability into a small, rugged module.

The laser head uses diode pumping at 1064 nm and delivers ≥ 40 mJ pulse energy with 6–15 ns pulse width and beam divergence ≤ 0.5 mrad. Within a single designation cycle the pulse energy deviation stays within 10% of the mean, and emission axis stability is better than 0.05 mrad. This ensures a compact, stable spot on target, which is essential for reliable seeker lock and accurate fire-control solutions.

In ranging mode, the LDR40K3 supports single-shot ranging and continuous operation at 1 Hz and 5 Hz. The minimum range is ≤ 300 m and the maximum range is ≥ 5,000 m on vehicle-sized diffuse targets, with range accuracy better than ±2 m and a valid ranging probability of at least 98%. These parameters make it suitable for mid-range gunnery, surveillance and target hand-off from armored vehicles or small naval platforms.

In designation mode, the module adopts precise frequency coding with a basic 20 Hz designation frequency and timing accuracy on the order of microseconds. The effective designation range is ≥ 3.5 km under typical test conditions. Short-cycle designation provides around 20 s of continuous laser-on time per cycle, while long-cycle designation extends the single cycle to about 47 s; both modes use defined rest intervals and limited cycle counts to protect the laser head and extend lifetime to 1,000,000 pulses or more.

The LDR40K3 is powered from a 26 V ± 4 V DC supply. Standby power consumption is ≤ 10 W and typical active power during designation is ≤ 140 W. A J30 series connector provides pins for power, RS-422 communication, external sync and reserved programming/debugging. The RS-422 interface operates at 115200 bps and supports commands for self-test, single and continuous ranging, short and long designation, laser stop, code configuration and parameter queries, while status frames return range data, mode information, fault bits and cumulative pulse counts for health monitoring.

Mechanically, the module fits within a 95 mm × 97 mm × 48 mm envelope and weighs ≤ 420 g, allowing installation inside compact turrets, mast-mounted EO/IR heads or stabilized sensor balls. It is qualified for −40 °C to +60 °C operating temperature, extended storage limits, MIL-style vibration on three axes and post-peak sawtooth shock tests, with the unit required to remain powered and functional during testing. This combination of performance, size and robustness makes the LDR40K3 a strong choice as the laser core for tracked and wheeled combat vehicles, patrol craft and other mobile fire-control platforms.
